Remedial Drainage and Vegetation Improvements

Location: Development in Falling Waters, Northern West Virginia

Project Background

Homeowners initially reported significant issues with drainage and a lack of vegetation in their rear and side yards, rendering these areas inaccessible. This prompted a recall of the original contractors to implement remedial improvements. This case study details a follow-up meeting to review the efficacy of these improvements.

Completed Improvements & Initial Outcomes

The contractors implemented the following key improvements:

  • French Under-Drain Installation: A French under-drain was installed along the toe of the rear hillside. This was designed to capture natural springs, preventing water from saturating the rear yards.
  • Grading Improvements: Subsequent grading work was performed to ensure that the rear and side yards effectively drain towards the designed open ditch located at the front of the properties.
  • Lawn Vegetation Establishment: Efforts were made to establish healthy lawn growth in the affected areas.

During the follow-up meeting, homeowners expressed satisfaction with these initial remedial works. They reported good lawn growth and no further complaints regarding the improved rear and side yard drainage, specifically noting the success of the French drain system.
